family ties

so look, its monday morning again. im sitting here waiting for it to tick past 9, so i can go wait for my bus. my lecture starts at 10. plenty of time to get there!

yesterday i spent the afternoon at my aunt and uncles house with the rest of the family, as we celebrated two of my little cousins birthdays. tristyn and jayden. 10 and 9 respectivly. it was nice to see all my family together, and after a little while i was becoming really greatful that we all actually still talk to each other. i mean, my family has its own quirks and weirdness and issues, but for every birthday we all turn up and happily chat with each other.
this is, ofcourse my fathers family that i am talking about. my mothers family i dont have much to do with.

for my aboriginal studies subject i have to make a family tree. im not sure how far back it will go, but the prospect is still exciting! i really do love and value family, and living around lots of my dads family, aka great aunts and unlces and all their kids and grandkids, i think is such a great thing. its not something a lot of people have, and its something i need to value more.

growing up away from all my family, besides mum, dad and pearl, i guess i really missed really knowing all my extended family. i mean, sure we knew them, and saw them once a year or two. and now i find myself in the middle of dubbled (aka, my oma's family) territory... and i love it!

its something which i jpoke about, but some part of me is really serious. meet a dutch person, and they instantly become family. sitting in my aboriginal studies class i cant help but feel the similarities. between me stating the dutch are my family, and indigenous people relating to other indigenous people as family. and.. sure its not exactly the same, but it still makes me smile in class...

speaking of class, i guess i better go get ready for that. he he :P

For me, we don't see much of my dad's side of the family. While growing up we spent more time with my mums side of the family since they were living closer.

At the end of september we are having a family reunion which will be many of my dad's side of the family.. of which I won't know many of them.
