Lovemarks
wandering through a book store, bec calls out to me to show me a certain book. a bright red cover meets my eye, and her description that it was "a very interesting book" and my spontanious buying on that day added the book to my pile even though i didnt read the blurb. i had no idea what i was getting myself in for.
when i got home, i began to read it and discovered, amongst all the brands and marketing and buisness talk, a wonderful discourse on love.
the book is brilliantly set out, with a lot of colour, and images. perfect for someone like me.
to create a lovemark, which basically a brand which consumers are willing to buy, regardless, you need to entice their emotions. its all about emotions and feelings.
three things. mystery, intimacy and sensuality.
respect and trust. commitment.
i shall quote some things at you.
"people everywhere are wanting to embrace emotion."
"the essential difference between emotion and reason is that emotion leads to action, while reason leads to conclusions"
primary emotions are : joy, sorrow, anger, fear, suprise disgust. these can all be felt while you are alone.
secondary emotions are: love, guilt, shame, pride, envu, jealousy. these are more complex. combine the head and the heart. are a volitile mix from which human relationships are formed.
six truths about love
1) a warning: humans need love. without it, they die.
2) a definition: love means more than liking a lot. its a profound sense of attatchment.
3) love is about responding, about delicate intuitive sensing. it is always two way.
4) concerns who and what we love. the different kinda of love.
5) love takes time. love has history. it gives us meaning and makes us who we are.
6) love cannot be demanded or conmmanded. it can only be given.
love needs to be built on respect.
"love needs respect right from the start. without it, love will not last. it will fade like all pessions and infatuations. respect is what you need when you are in for the long haul."
"love is about action. its about creating a meaningful relationship. its a constant process of keeping in touch and working with [people], understanding them, spending time with them."
mystery: passion and suprise. learning, anticipation, discovery. aspirations, goals, dreams.
"mystery opens up emotion. mystery adds to the complexity of relationships and experiences. it lies in the stories, metaphores and iconic characters that give a relationship its texture. mystery is a part of creating loyalty beyond reason"
sensuality: touch, sight, sound, taste, smell.
"the senses alert us, enflame us, warn us as well as fill our hearts with joy. they have protected us and enriched us throughout our .... story."
intimacy: commitment, empathy, passion.
listening as well as talking. a two way street.
"intimacy requires an understanding of what matters to people at a very deep level. and that understanding means you have to be prepared to reveal yourself as well. reveal your true feelings."
intimacy has three different faces.
empathy - so that we can respond to and understand other peoples emotions.
commitment - which proves that we are in the relationship for the lng haul.
and passion - that bright spark that keeps the relationship alive.
a wonderful book. definatly worth the buy, and read.
(oh, and just in case you were actually wondering, the book is called Lovemarks - the future beyond brands. by kevin roberts.)
SOunds like a good book. Too bad though, it didnt spark any emotions, only the reason that its a good book, haha
2 things:
1.
three things. mystery, intimacy and sensuality.
respect and trust. commitment.
Oops....didn't you mean 5? or 6? :-P
2. You REALLY need to start controlling your spending habits.
After reading all your blogs recently I'm starting to think the government gives "poor" uni students far too much money to waste ;-)
