a long blog about various things
Argh.... this blog was taking me too long... so i got rid of it all...
let me start again...
yesterday i felt needed... from my aunty and uncle dropping off their dog Max (big ridgeback, rottie, boxer, doberman thing), from washing glasses last night.
went with Jess to college so she could drop of an assignment. only got there just in time.
picked bec up, went to lunch at Sofias. jess wanted some time to just relax... one good thing about sofias is they have huge meals....! i took my left overs home, finished just then.
went shopping and bought a lot of stuff for last night. the back of Jess's car (affectionatly known as Norma Jean), was so full of drink, she was very low to the ground.
speeding along the eastern freeway, down hoddle, down victoria??, down church street, a crazy fun U turn with not enough room, and there we were, at the dance studio in richmond. lugging boxes of drink up stairs. not good for my knee, but hey... i was toteing...
anyway. sitting blowing up ballooons by mouth... 100... we decided to scrap the balloon idea for lack of time... my hands were purple... (their colour theme was purple and silver.... i think ive semi decided that for my wedding, id like purple and gold.. but hey, that could change in the 5 or so years it takes for me to get married.... but again, thats a tangent...)
doing fun decoration thingies, pick onion, which sounds so like pink onion that i was rather confused as to why we were putting pink onions on tables...
curling ribbony stuff with a knife, cause there was no scissors... evil blunt knife anyway...
and then students arrived half an hour early... at 6. grr to them. they werent getting any food yet... well, cause we haddnt set anything up yet....
frantically cutting carrots, and celery on the bench... couldnt find a cutting board... bec was cutting cheese...
got platters set up...
and then they started asking for drink. originally we were going to have a big punch bowl, but they didnt have a big punch bowl. so we just made up punch in jugs... that was fun. some ice, a bit of this, and a bit of that, and some of that... no two jugs were the same.... it was a bit of a pot luck really...
hopefully they all tasted alright, i mean, apple and guava, lemonaide, ginger ale and pineapple juice... sound appealing?
finally everyone had arrived. it was all set up, looked good enough, all the people looked amazing... (got some inspiration for my own formal dress.... still have to find and buy it)..
but our other job had just began... trying to placitate the multitudes with our strage concoctions of liquid...
the night consisted of lots of walking around, collecting empty jugs, filling empty glasses... and then the big task of cleaning up!
but before that. there were some nice lulls in the evening, tried to teach bec the female parts of the dances we learnt on wednesday. i dont know how much got taught. we were both kinda out of it.
and there was this most lovely view out from the windows at the back... i wandered over there with Becs camera (which she took off me, used it properly, and took some good shots). it was night. and the city was just there. could see the top of the arts centre, in all its colourful flashing glory. and a clock. it was the clock that had attracted me over there anyway.
so many things to look at out there. seemed a million miles away from my current hectic life inside. and now still seems a million miles away from my solitude country ness....
why does the city have such appeal, like a drug. once taken, you need more of it. even the stress of driving, the plethora of people. the so many non smiling, non familiar faces. but some vain hope, some little grain of optimism that there will be a recognisable glint in someones eye.
a smile from a random stranger, or perhaps even, a hug from some one you know.
but alas, the city is not my home. here i live, in the outskirts. a town, in a suburb. i can walk down the street and have a high change of seeing someone i know.
but the pull to the city is still there. something unknown about it... the adventurer in me cries to discover what it is. maybe one day that urge will be settled, fulfilled. or perhaps as the days grown longer, the years go quicker, it will stay, locked away in the back of me. i will be 40, three kids, living in some suburbia somehwere, and the drug will have died. i would have died... my soul crushed...
eh....? that was rather, umm... morbid...
anyway. cleaning up was fun last night. a tiny little sink, in a corner, hard to get to. washing so many glasses.
the car ride home.. left at 12.... was kinda nice... the extrovert in me was having a great time. i was almost wide awake again when i got home at 1am... i possibly could have stayed up...
but i was good, and didnt. said goodnight to my dogs. got the cat and brought him and his food inside. turned off the lights, locked the front door... cleaned my teeth, got changed, and jumped into bed...
the cat jumped next to me, and proceded to clean himself. i think he had killed and eaten something.. he smelt like it...
and so i woke up this morning. i suvived my first night by myself... nothing terribly scarey.... no penguins tapping at my window...
and so that brings me to now, of which i will say adios, and leave the blog there...
oh yeah. i have a box of Lindt chocolates... want one?
