summer rains
random childhood memory.
it was raining. i liked it when it rained, especially in summer. except that i couldnt go out and play. i looked out the window and saw the large grey clouds. this would last for a while. the rain was heavy. good, i though. the creek is going to flood.
i turned back to my dolls, and teddies and continued to play. my (toy) horses were feeling left out, so they came and joined me, and my numerous barbies got their outfits changed. i lived in an imaginary world, playing with my plastic friends like they were living. to my mind, it was almost as if they were.
the hours passed by, and the rain continued. lunch time.
i sat next to my sister, and opposite from my mum. dad was at work.
something simple and fun, being around my mum.
the afternoon consisted of painting. my toys were still having their picnic, and could last for a while without me, and besides, painting was so much fun...
my mum started me out on the journey of loving creative things.
night came, and it was still raining. it was still light when i went to bed, the jys of daylight savings.
mum came and tucked us in, read us a bit from our childrens bible, and then kissed us and turned out the lights.
i snuggled up to CB (my most favourite teddy of all time. her name is Funshine, and shes a carebear. and i love her a lot, and if my hourse was burning down, i would take her with me), and fell asleep to the rain pattering on the roof.
morning came, and the sunlight streamed in through the gaps in my blinds.
i opened it, and saw the puffy white clouds, and blue sky.
a brilliant day. i knew the creek was flooded, or atleast had water in it.
i hurried through my breakfast, and got dressed. i pulled mum out the back with me, and down to the gate at the back of my yard. i creaked it open, and looked at the water rushing past in the creek below. a couple of the other kids were gathering around the tunnel where it went under the road.
mum let me go, telling me to be careful. i promised i would be.
chucking stones and sticks into the swirling brown, muddy water. pretending to fall in.
full summer days full of joyus free activities of fun.
i sometimes wish summer could last forever.
