Passing on the Batton
arriving home from work, knowing that i am going to be leaving my house in four hours time. i am tired. i try and sleep. i manage two hours.
i shower.
i dress.
i eat.
i wait outside, half asleep for jess.
get YITS dvd's from Becs house.
make our way to southgate, via Jess's house, Jessie's pizza (really yummy satay chicken pizza!), mooroolbark station, and the lovely services of Connex.
sitting in the sun, looking down at the yarra, realising that i actually like the city. the water. the sunshine. the atmosphere. happiness seeped back into me.
more yitsers arrived. monday night. yits catch up.
so many familiar faces. i was really glad to see people.
i gave clare her sugar. a whole envelope full of these different types of sugar packets. she was happy.
the night was fun. walked down to crown. sat around and talked.
and then i got really exhausted. i got quiet, and very tired. i didnt laugh at silly things. i wasnt talking.
i wanted to be alone.
and i tried to. but jess (being the extrovert that she is) wouldnt let me walk off by myself. so the two of us walked off, slowly, me looking in the various shops in crown.
slowly, very slowly the feeling of needing to be alone left me.
and jess and i went back to go get some others to go watch the crown fires.
i was still being quiet, and so i sat there silently (i think?) and watched the flames.
there is something about both fire and water that is very pleasant. water becuase it s calming, fire because it is invigorating.
the car ride home with jane was great.
it was good being able to have an excuse to ask questions, and not care if they are socially acceptable, or should be asked or not.
found out more about jane, and got to know her better. i realise that i really should have made an effort to get to know her during yits, but im glad i am still being able to see her.
sleep.
woke up tuesday morning to my phone vibrating. i get up and try and go on the net. no, it doesnt work. i read through my chat logs from saturday nights. realise that i didnt really say anything bad, in most of my conversations, and relax a little from that.
i go and start reading a book which lexie lent me last year. i fall asleep reading it.
i wake. in an hour and a half i am getting picked up to go the new years yits camp.
i realise it is valentines day.
showered, dressed and fed. i sit in my study drawing. jess is early, for once, and waits around patiently for me while i get ready.
we pick up bec.
it is bec who mentions in the car on the way to yarra junction, to ADANAC, that it was a year ago on that day that we had started our yits camp.
i bought a mango. from tim in village greens. the last place on the delivery run. so i know him well enough.
we arrive, and who do i see, but Alecia. i exclaim loudly, "lexies here!" to which jess replies, "oh yeah, i didnt tell you".
i missed alecia very much, and it was wonderful to see her again.
after lots of hugs, we go into the hall type thing. and gabi yells out "sam" and hugs me.
gabi was in the year below me at school, and goes (most of the time) to my church. i didnt really like her that much in school. but during last year i actually came to like her a lot.
i gave Andy his mango. i was feeling spontaneous. it was a "why not" gift. gift giving is probably my least love language, but every now and then i get good ideas, and if im not too lazy, i actually do them.
the talking session went fine. lots of good questions, the majority of which i didnt answer. but sat back and let the others there answer.
afterwards, we all went up to mount donna buang, to the look out there. it was beautiful. i loved just being able to hang out with the new yitsers and the old ones. it was really like we were actually not the yitsers any more. that there was a new, fresh bunch coming through. and, remember what that was like, i was happy i could, even if it was via osmosis, impart some.. i dont know... help, knowledge, wisdom.
went back to jess's house afterwards. i was keenly aware that i needed to get to bed early to get up for work. but i wanted to hang out with my friends.
so i did.
the highlyight of the evening was laying on the trampoline with Iain. the oldest person from my yits level. he is just one of those people who you can talk to very easily.
so i did.
all about my "love life", my god life, and the correlation between the two (of which there is muchly ness).
i told him everything. he is so very easy to talk to.
and then i had to go home, after being consumed by mozzies, and went to bed.
all in all, i loved my valentines day. i didnt care that i didnt have a special someone to share it with. i had a whole bunch of friends to share it with. definatly the best valentines day yet.
that wasnt as exciting as planned it to be. my mind is tired right now (thursday night) so im not being very descriptive...
