wealth
its curious how i approach the subject.
wealth, money.. you get the point.
a few basics. we live in a capitalist society. dont try and deny it, we do.
the rich have the power, and generally the powerful are rich.
corporations and politics are hand in hand, as each support the other. but thats another topic, dont get sidetracked.
recently i have been feeling more and more left wing (meaning, if i was in america i WOULDNT support Bush). but again, thats another topic.
i come from a working class family. both parents come from working class families. both grandparents are imagrents from Holland.
i would call myself middle class.
my dad is a tradey, and i guess my mum doesnt really count cause she doesnt live with me.
i dont have much money, my family doesnt have much money compared to some others. compared to other middle class families. or looking up the wealth ladder to those above us, we have comparitavly less.
however, i think we so often dont notice, think or look down the ladder at those who have less money than us.
i get $200 a fortnight from the government, because my dad eatrnt hardly anything in the last tax year, and becuase i study full time. and everytime i work i get $50.
some people tell me to get a real job, and that im paid pittance. perhaps their right. but i dont really care.
i went into an op shop today, looking for a nice warm black jacket. i have only really got into op shopping recently, and like all my phases, will possibly pass. but anyway.
yeah, so i go into this op shop, and find a good jacket, go to the counter to pay for it.
the ticket says $10. i think, thats cool. the lady goes, "so which rack did you get this from?"
i reply, "oh, down the back there somewhere"
the reply being "ahh, thats half price.."
impulsivly i insisted on paying the $10...
and i was thinking about it more as i left.
i dont want money to consume me.
i want to be generous.
in money, and in time and in any other way i can.
i cant serve both god and money, and i have enough trouble serving God...
no, dont take this is a guilt trip to give more to your church or what not...
this is me putting into words my own thoughts on wealth, and money.
compared to more than 30% of people who live at or below the poverty line in AUSTRALIA!, im rich. so i can afford to be generous...
i guess generosity has to be a mindset too... i mean, why do you give money to charities. for the glory of doing so, or becuase you genuinely want to help?
i joke about dutch stingyness. but in reality, the dutch are actually are very generous people, those who actually live in holland now that is. i think where the stereotype comes from is all those who came from holland to australia post war times, and had to survive on very little.
but i dont want to be a part of that stereotype!
im sorry, i dont know where this is going.
"i dont want money to consume me.
i want to be generous."
i think you can be generous but be carful not to stop others being generous to you
i come from a working class family, my parents never had or have any money, i have a youth leader in my life who blessed me so much when i was younger, and i had to let him do it, but now i am able to bless him back, but if i had of said i didnt want anything from him he wouldnt have been able to bless me and i would have been in a worse position
