Red Ribbon
a symbol, a sign. something to remind me about something else.
yesterday i watched half of a turkish wedding with my friend Elif. her brother got married in febuary.
the wedding had a lot of english apects to it, but mainly maintained the cultural feel. the various traditions that have been celebrated for centuries.
one of these was for a brother of the bride (this bride didnt have a brother, so it was her closest male cousin) to tie a red ribbon around her waist to symbolise purity and virginity. she would then be presented to her husband, and he would remove the ribbon. more symbols.
i read yesterday, in the "Hardest days" book, about symbols. a coincidence? perhaps.
i am now searching for Red Ribbons, and keeping them in line of site.
and i built an altar...
