"if you are doing anything worth doing with any conviction there are going to be people who come out in opposition" - Keri Smith (
Wish Jar Journal)i was just reading through her blog, which i subscribe to, and discovered that line. its brilliant, and it's true.
it got me thinking about my own life. about Christianity, about where i see myself showing Gods love... and about if i have come across any opposition.
in some ways, i am a very stubborn person. if I'm doing something, or i decide i want to do something, and someone tells me not to, or that its a bad idea, or that i will fail, it only makes me want to do it even more.
at Kids Klub last year, one afternoon, we talked about with the kids about the fact we are all going to hell if we don't have Jesus. i didn't write the bible material, but it was all biblical (i think it was based on some of the La Trobe CU tracts). and it also spoke about the good news of Jesus, etc.
one of the kids took it home, and hid it under his/her bed. their mother found it and was furious. furious at the truth that we will all die without Jesus.
she came and exploded in the church office and even though Richard (our minister) tried to calm her down and talk about it, she was very upset. i can understand where she is coming from. reading that some group of Christians thinks that her, her child and probably everyone she knows should die and go to hell is very upsetting.
we talked about it as leaders when we all found out, and while Rebecca, who is technically the head leader there, took most of the blame we had to come to terms with the fact that the gospel is confronting. in fact, it should be.
another thing i remember there being some opposition to is my relationship to a certain young man from over west. and i know they were probably looking out for me, and some of them spoke with some experience (about long distance relationships. they suck most of the time. :)), i hope that they all support me now.
i am very happy about how the relationship has been progressing. i am really enjoying taking things slowly. there is something beautiful in experiencing and savouring each stage. each new thing.
but, i really don't have much opposition in much of my life. i have some from myself, which is mainly just my own fears.
i then, wonder, am i doing anything really worth doing?
